Energy Blocks

What happens to a river if a physical object (like a dam) blocks its flow? It's primary function is inhibited -- and your subtle energy systems work the same way.

What are energetic blocks?

In energy medicine, we talk a lot about blockages. So, what exactly is an "energy block"? Essentially, it's a disruption in the proper flow of energy (i.e. chi, ki, prana), within one or more of your energetic channels.

Subtle energy systems that may be affected include your bioenergetic field (aka auric field or aura), meridian channels, nadis, or chakra energy centers.

How do I know if I have one or more energy blockages?

The problem with Western medicine is this isn't something that is going to be routinely checked when you visit your physician with your symptoms.

Energetic blockages may result in a multitude of life disruptions, including:

  1. You have a hard time focusing your attention

  2. You have trouble sleeping

  3. You feel stressed, anxious, or depressed

  4. You feel helpless

  5. You can't fully express yourself or communicate your emotions

  6. You lack creativity, inspiration or motivation

  7. You have closed yourself off to others

  8. You have financial problems or concerns

  9. You struggle with relationships, including with yourself

  10. You suffer from a physical illness

Energetic blocks can come from all kinds of places including traumatic events, learned beliefs and belief systems, ancestral trauma, or it may be something you picked up from someone else's energy field (I'm talking to you, empaths).

What can I do to heal and release it?

While there definitely is not a one-size-fits-all solution, here are some common techniques to get you started:

  1. Meditation: Creating an affirmation as we discussed in our last article can be very helpful because you can make your affirmation specific to your block.

  2. Mala Meditation: This form of meditation in particular combines the healing power of meditation, mantra and healing crystals.

  3. Reiki: A form of energy healing therapy that you can get from a practitioner, or learn to do yourself.

  4. Acupuncture: A form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

  5. Spend time outside: Preferably in nature, time outdoors can clear your energy.

  6. Journal: The act of writing can help you to identify as well as release blocks.

  7. Healing crystals and gemstones: These have powerful healing capabilities, and if you know the energy center affected, you can choose your stones specific to that blocked channel.

  8. Physical movement: While rest is good, stagnation is not. Moving your body in a physical way will also get the energy flowing on a metaphysical level. This is the basis of practices including integrative stretching, yoga and Tai Chi.

What it all comes down to is frequencies and vibration. Your body functions at an optimal vibration, and if that is disrupted, it lowers your vibration.

This is why you hear us talk all the time about raising your vibration and, of course, why we incorporate meditation, movement, and energy healing in our Raise Your Vibration and Reiki Like a Mother programs.

All of this is usually GREAT news if you feel stuck in one of the ways mentioned in this article, but nothing seems to work or make sense. Feel free to reach out to me at alyssa@integrativewellnessjourneys.com to work through your particular situation!
